2 cops shot- One reported dead

    Breaking News

(New York - WABC, March 14, 2007) - Authorities tell Eyewitness News that two auxilliary police officers were rushed to the hospital after a wild shootout in Greenwich Village on Wednesday night.
It happened outside 175 Bleeker Street, which is near the corner of Sullivan Street.

Witnesses say shots were fired outside the Lion's Den bar, and that the officers were possibly injured in the struggle with a suspect.

Darren McNamara, a tourist, tells the Associated Press, that he heard two bursts and thought it was someone shattering the front window of a shop. It turns out he heard gunfire.

Witnesses say suspects ran into the Lion's Den bar where someone was wounded inside and later removed on a stretcher.

Details are sketchy at this time, but Eyewitness News will have the latest coming up at 11 p.m.

11:05 and one is already dead.

    Update.

(New York - WABC, March 14, 2007) - Authorities tell Eyewitness News that an auxiliary police officer was killed in a wild shootout Wednesday night in Greenwich Village.
Another auxiliary officer was shot and injured.

We have two reporters -- one at the scene, the other at the hospital. We begin with Jim Dolan in Greenwich Village.

Late Wednesday night, we learned that one of the officers in this wild shootout is dead, the other still in the hospital.

It was a wild scene earlier in the night. Keep in mind that Bleeker Street has a lot of bars and a lot of people out enjoying the first nice weather of spring -- and then suddenly a lot of shots, at least two separate semiautomatic handguns, people ran screaming to get away from the gunfire.

When it was done, those two auxiliary officers were shot. Both were taken to St. Vincent's Hospital.

Witnesses report, but police do not confirm, that a suspect was also shot at 175 Bleeker Street. The original shooting happened at 208 Sullivan Street.

One bar owner heard the gunfire just down the street from his bar.

"They're shooting outside ... I just couldn't believe it ... I came to the window ... I heard 15-18 shots ... like an automatic, that's what it sound like," the bar owner said.

There are a lot of unanswered questions and police are not giving out a lot of information. But keep in mind: auxiliary officers do not carry guns, or at least they're not supposed to carry guns.

The officers were rushed to St. Vincent's Hospital. Mayor Bloomberg arrived there late Wednesday night. Eyewitness News reporter Jen Maxfield is there with more.

The one surviving police officer is being treated late Wednesday. There is substantial police presence here at the hospital in what is shaping up to be a very violent week for the NYPD.

Well it was suppose to be announced today but for some reason it got delayed. So tomorrow, everyone already submitted their evidence. So i don't see why not.

As for the verdict, i doubt all 5 are going to get convicted, the rest will get some type of desk duty but the one who emptied his clip twice he may possibly get something. Like jail time, if he gets no jail time, it will be a slap in the face.
