What you hear on the parkway is not Konpa. It is Kanaval Meringue or Raras. Here's a few famous ones.

I'll start with the most famous one.

    T-Vice's most famous Kanaval track.

This was probably the best Kanaval of that year.

Fastforward to 3:15 and start jamming

One of the more popular rap tunes released for Kanaval.

This one had a popular dance to it.

    Rara

Originating in Haïti, rara is a form of festival music used for street processions, typically during Easter Week. The music centers on a set of cylindrical bamboo trumpets called vaksen (which may also be made of metal pipes), but also features drums, maracas, güiras or güiros (a percussion instrument), and metal bells, as well as sometimes also cylindrical metal trumpets which are made from recycled metal, often coffee cans. The vaksen-s perform repeating patterns in hocket and often strike their instruments rhythmically with a stick while blowing into them. In the modern day, standard trumpets and saxophones may also be used. The genre though predominantly Afro-based has some Taino Amerindian elements to it such as the use of güiros and maracas.

    Konpa

Compas direct is a modern Haitian Méringue popularized in the mid-1950s by the sax and guitar player Nemours Jean Baptiste, a Haitian jazz artist

Kanaval Meringue's are songs that are specifically made for Kanaval during Kanaval time. It usually fuses a few genres. A Kanaval Meringue could be 10 minutes long and have different rhythms and parts to it.

Listen to this tune. It's a perfect example. See how they flow in and out of different rhythms. You don't even notice how long the song is because it's like a few of them fused into one.

The correct spelling is Konpa. That is the correct spelling in Kreyol therefor making it THE official spelling for the genre. But most places still write Compas (French) then Kompas which fuses (coMPAS) and (KO-npa) and then it later being spelled as Kompa because the S ins't pronounced. That's where the spelling confusion comes from.

As for that song it's Le Majeur by T-Vice.

Because these Kanaval tunes are so long, our artist generally only release one tune per Kanaval season.

Oh yes and your welcome. Anytime man

Yes but he asked for music you hear on the parkway so I gave him Kanaval Meringues. Believe me nobody is denying the mighty Tabou Combo. They are THE Band. The blueprint for French Caribbean Bands. Without them there is no Carimi, T-Vice or the almighty Kassav. they were like the Jackson 5. That song was a big hit in Panama and Colombia. I may make a Tabou appreciation thread.
