and next time you go to Martinique take a trip to Dominica....is only 15 minutes flight.
No problem Val ... as I said in the Creole Festival thread I plan to go to Dominica.

About the 15mins, it is St Lucia which is 15mins far from Martinique.
Liat is going to Dominica in 35 minutes. I've just checked, and I have to admit I didn't know there were direct flight to Dominica again, I thought they had stopped the line. So it's good to know. Anyway there is the boat.

When I was at school they did a trip to Dominica, I think that was for an Exchange program for 1 or 2 weeks, but I don't remember why I didn't go. I remember everyone enjoyed the trip. I think there were also Canadian students envolved.

Last August I was planning to go there with some friends, but they had to postpone their trip. And then I was back in France when he finally went to Dominica.

Otherwise almost every Martinican have heard about Ophélia, I have cousins who went to her hotel/lodge, they had a great stay. Well there are of course other places to stay.

My next trip to the Caribbean will be on next month God willing. But I will go south again St Lucia and Grenada.

I don't know if this is to take into account but I'm from the center of Martinique (Lamentin) we mostly meet St Lucian: at school, at sport or in the neighborhood, plus there are families from both islands. Of course there are Dominican too, but more rarely (at least in my experience). Plus, in the center, we only have lucian FM radio stations like RCI 101.1 and Hot FM 105.3, plus one more that I don't get properly. And we have had HTS the TV channel, but now it's only on in the south of Martinique they get that channel. By the way, our new French immigration policy is sad.

I know that it's a shame for a Martinican to have travelled on all continents except Australia... but never been yet to Dominica toupré kay nou. But for sure I want to discover and meet the islands. And Dominica worth it. I wish to know more about Dominica.

Frederic a Direct flight from DOminica to Martinique is 15minutes....Martinique is just south of D/A.........we stay on the south of the Island and see Martinique right there. I have been to Martinique and that's the time it took to fly there. I stayed at a hotel called "Les Armadiers" in St. Luce I believe..

    Val
Of course I know Dominica is north of Martinique. The thing is I thought there weren't direct flight to Roseau and that one needed to stop over in Pointe a Pitre. The result was (i don't remember when) that the flight ticket was very expensive given the little distance.

Fortunately now it seems that there is a line again. That's very good for people like me who comes to Martinique for 10/15 days. I know there is the boat of course, but the plane is easier to plan in advance.

As for the time I checked on the company website. So I assume the lenght of the flight depends on the type of airplane. For example Guadeloupe which is one island further can be either to 20min or 50min (direct flight).

It is also a matter of money. It's often over budget to plan to visit another island, since I visit Martinique first (Paris to Martinique can be very expensive, very prohibitive prices). Before I couldn't really. Now I try to make it a priority.

As for the geography, we also can see Dominica at our north. We also can see St Lucia (even the cars moving along). I even saw St Vincent twice (from Bellefontaine, north west coast of Martinique) on a really clear day.

Re to St Lucia, it's a matter of personal experience and habit. Some martinican preferrably go to France, others to Barbados, others to St Lucia, others to Dominica, others to Puerto Rico, others to Trinidad, others to Guadeloupe, others to Miami... It's not always exclusive since there are also business reasons or family/friend affinities or seasonal events (music festival, carnival, special rate offers) so that people travel to many islands.
