Is Christianity threatened?

Could it be that the Catholic church feels threatened by the alleged facts in the Da Vinci Code. I recently went into a christian book store and was quite shocked and amused to see a mini section dedicated specificaly to rebutting DVC. If this book doesn't threaten the beliefs held to be true by christians why are they so against it. Why has the catholic church spoken out against the book and it's author. Why does Opus Dei want a disclaimer to preceed the movie? Does the church not have faith enough in it's followers to ignore the book?

Shouldn't they then feel secure enough to ignore Dan Brown and his book?

No because it will open more ppl to do thier own research. Although they pretty much covered thier tracks I sure the truth is out there somewhere.

I like that !

and of course the church feels threatened because those alleged allegations undermine the Church and the legacy of Jesus.
AND I LOVE IT!.... to watch them squirm...

the thing with DVC is poeple get sucked into it and thus believe it.
I give to Dan Brown tho - he uses age old myths (as illustrated in Da Vinci's "the Last Supper" ) to create a hugely successful NOVEL

If there was a book written about soca music claiming that it was derived from Native American war chants and that Trinis stole the idea from old 'Cowboy and Indian' movies, what would your reaction be? Before you say "to ignore such obvious foolishness" what if that idea was gaining currency worldwide...that such a scenario giving rise to soca music was plausible?

Would you ignore it, confident that most soca lovers (all over the world, not just WI) would innately and inherent know the 'truth' or would you actively try and shoot down the blasphemy?
