Is the best story ever told really the best story ever SOLD?

We've come to accept that the Bible is the work of man, yes there are discrepencies, etc. etc. But some things are too big to be swept under the rug.

Many Christians believe in the imortality of Jesus Christ....but was he really immortal?

There is overwhelming evedence of the contrary.

I found this link about the Council of Nicaea which is food for thought:

Where's the evidence as it relates to the Council of Nicea? How does this prove that Christ may not be immortal?

Did you read the link?

The council came together as a political move.

Not only did I read the link but I am intimately familiar with the history regarding the Council. Your process of analysis is flawed if "political move" is all you got out of that link.

Prior to Constantine's rise, the Roman Empire was divided, there was a Caesar in Rome and a Ceasar in Byzantium (later called Constantinople, present day Istanbul). To add legitimacy to their respective claims, each Caesar sought the favor of the Pope...problem is, there were also two popes, one in each city. When Constantine seized Rome he sought to unite the Roman empire, this meant bringing about unity in the Church as well..competing egos and theologies aside...there was also the question of the Arian heresy.

The Heresy hinged not on the immortality of Christ, but rather on his nature and origin. Was he OF the same substance as God...or was he LIKE the same substance as God? OF the same substance meant that he was like God, Divine. LIKE the same substance meant that he was a creature, part of God's creation...thus not divine.

Angels are creatures and also immortal, but not divine...hence Arians didn't question Christ's immortality, but his Divinity. Constantine convened the First Council of Nicea to help resolve the issue that threatened unity in the Church...and hence the empire. He largely then left the attending Bishops to their own devices.

So was there a political factor (unity of the empire)? Of course.

Does this compromise the notion of Christ's immortality. No. Obsurd to even try and link the two.

I guess I didn't see it that way? Are you familiar with the Dead Sea Scrolls?

Yeah familiar enough with the Scrolls...they don't really inform the discussion on Christ though seeing that they were written before Christ was born. They tend to authenticate the Old Testament though...particularly the Pentateuch and a couple other books outside of that.
