Im not gettin nuttin from it.
It honestly hasnt raised any new issues let alone solve anything that might have been in question.

Seems like its just trying to throw doubt on the book but its not doing a very good job. In my own opinion.
I think all the questions raised can be answered in the bible itself.

This was the goal. When a particular verse was focused on in the bible each religion had a different meaning to the verse. So I don't think the intention was to throw doubt on the book. The point was to show that the identity of the characters and/or places in the bible are less important than what the message is conveying.

However, no new issues were raised even though I watched the entire 3 parts.

I thought so to but it was done briefly.

1. There was a sculpture depicting Abraham worshiping to the sun moon and stars not sure how far back it was dated but pretty ancient.
2. After the towel of babel Abraham was called on to restore the faith and convey monotheism of course.
3. The question of who the promise was given to came up - Isaac or Ishmael. Jews claimed it was Isaac and the Muslims claimed it was Ishmael. There is an synagogue dated back to the 6th century in Northern Israel depicting a painted scene of Abraham about to sacrifice his child. The painting does not say whether the child is Isaac or Ishmael but as I said previously it is the message that holds the importance.
4. Then they forwarded to the present day - Jerusalem, and the conflicts and separations between the Jews and Muslims. Each having their own interpretations of the bible. We own this and we are the chosen that type of ting. Daiz basically it as you saw the rest.

Was wondering if you saw the part on Bush? Interesting the way he squeezes God and fragmented bible verses into his speeches.

Basically they examined Bush as a religious person and his role as the world's most powerful leader. In his speeches, comments are made such as America is the ideal country and want to spread its freedom throughout the world and the world should model after us. References of America being a divine country and he's a divine leader. In his autobiography he mentions that he was called by God to lead this country. I don't remember the exact verses cited from the bible but there were a few that were relevent.

Here is a brief description of the show

The three great monotheistic faiths, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, can all be traced back to the prophet Abraham. Yet despite the common ancestor and shared beginnings, his descendants have scattered and hardened into separate camps at odds with each other. In fact today, in our post-9/11 world, entrenched religious belief is regarded as a key factor in the worldwide clash of civilizations.

THE CHILDREN OF ABRAHAM goes on a journey of discovery to understand the shared origins of the three faiths, and then takes a very contemporary look at where we are today with our faith-based views. We travel to Jerusalem, Egypt, Turkey, Bosnia and the US and ask the big questions: Why, if there is one God, are there three different monotheistic faiths? Why do some people use religion to grab power and demonize their enemies, while others try to build bridges to them? And is there hope for a shared future? This is a fascinating and thought-provoking journey of discovery, so very relevant to our lives today.

Nothing really new since Imixers debate this daily. Why can't we all just get along???

I agree with you in the fact that we do discuss things like this regularly here, however we are a very small microcosim within the world we live in

True...*sigh*

Here is a more detailed description for all 3 parts:

The Children of Abraham, Part 1
November 27 @ 8/7c
In the post-9/11 world, entrenched religious belief is often seen as a key factor in a clash of cultures--Christians, Muslims, and Jews locked into an age-old struggle. In this thought-provoking 3-part series, Mark Dowd, a Catholic who trained to be a Dominican Friar, embarks on a very personal journey to the Holy Land, Egypt, Turkey, Bosnia, and the US to explore the shared roots and deep enmities of the three faiths, and to discover if there is hope in a shared future. The prophet Abraham is central to the three great monotheistic faiths of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Yet, his descendants have often resembled a squabbling, dysfunctional family. Why, if there is one God, are there three so-called monotheistic faiths? Why do some people abuse religion to demonize their enemies, while others build bridges to them? And why have the "Children of Abraham" often fallen so short of the legacy of unity that was promised to the prophet

The Children of Abraham, Part 2
November 27 @ 9/7c
Mark Dowd, a Catholic trained as a Dominican Friar, travels to Jerusalem, a city with huge cultural and historical significance--but not just for Christians. While talking to Muslims in the Temple Mount's shadow, watching a demonstration by US Christian Zionists, or interviewing Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, Dowd wonders whether the conflict is really religious or possibly political. The Temple Mount, Wailing Wall, and Al Aqsa Mosque have become objects of dispute, rather than religious relics. And Dowd is shocked by the support expressed for suicide bombers by Youseff Khattab--once Joseph Cohen, a Brooklyn Jew who converted to Islam--while teacher Adina Shapira runs a gauntlet of roadblocks and checkpoints to travel to her job at a Palestinian school. Dowd believes the difference between the two could be as basic as individual insecurities. But can things really be as simple as that?

The Children of Abraham, Part 3
November 27 @ 10/9c
Mark Dowd completes his spiritual journey with trips to the US and Bosnia. In America's Bible Belt, he visits Death Row to interview Mark Stroman, a Christian who randomly shot three Asian men in response to 9/11. Stroman explains his actions in an astonishingly frank way; and Dowd meets the only surviving victim, whose interpretation of Islam leads him to embrace forgiveness. Next, Dowd goes on a Christian radio phone-in, where the host asks that his religious intolerance be tolerated, and examines the relationship between President Bush's religious beliefs and role as the world's most powerful leader. In Bosnia, Dowd discovers what happens when religious intolerance goes too far. Muslim and Orthodox Christian leaders are still at odds after the civil war; but Dowd finds hope for multi-faith tolerance amidst the rubble.
