The Best BBQ place that i have tried in the NY area is a place called Famous Daves BBQ. They have locations in Westbury NY (just down the street from Roosevelt Field Mall) and in NJ. The ribs, chicken, fish and cornbread were great.
See the website for locations.

One of very few things that I miss about Philly- the great Vietnamese food. I've had good Vietnamese in Manhattan but in P.A. it was more "homecooked' and therefore much better.

I've spent time in/lived in or visited Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina and I have to say that North Carolina does not sleep on the bbq. The best American food that I've had was in North Carolina.

Texas too when it comes to BBQ. I have traveled a lot and Texas BBQ is really good. They really don't have much else really good down there but BBQ restaurants, steakhouses and Mexican food, those 3 they do really well.

I visited Sugar Cane recently, twice, and the food and drinks were good. I had the braised oxtail which was delicious. I tasted the jerk wings and it was good. On the first visit the rice was good, the second time I felt like I was eating almost 'bun bun.' The drinks were on point though. The sorrel drink/cocktail was good.

A few years back I visited Brawta downtown and the food was good. I haven't been there in years, so I don't even know if they're still open.

Crab Shanty in City Island. I had the King Leo, which basically has everything. It was really good.

The seafood in Sea is really good. Nice ambience.
