With the exception of one place (Southwest), I named places with ambience and that are not chains (wait, is Sushi Samba a chain?)

Anyway if you are into ambience, I would definitely recommend the Rainbow Room or Rainbow Grill. It's quite expensive, but it is worth it (in my opinion)

I believed it's called this. They have a lot of nice resturants in downtown brooklyn.

There is also this Thai resturant I went to couple months ago, I don't remember the name but it is in Park Slope on 7th Ave and 8th Street. The food is excellent!!

Thank you! Cause Ambience is nice but the food has to be off da hook for me to come back.

The new Footprints have ambience but the food is not great so that is a no no for me, until they switch cooks.

some of the chains listed like sushi samba, dos caminos, carmine's are not bad at all compared to places like friday's, olive garden, etc.

i love kemia (moroccan) on 44th and 9th, holy basil (thai) on 2nd and 11th i think, veracruz (mexican) bedford and n.6th in williamsburg, mojito (cuban) washington & park, clinton hill
balthazar (french) on spring street is my absolute favorite brunch spot and bajara on 1st ave in the east village is THE BEST indian restaurant in NYC.

Mojito's and bajara is really nice. I have never enjoyed true indian food but I liked that spot.
