The Dim ‘10,000 B.C.’ Should Have Been Called ‘Tarzan Goes to Egypt’
This is a film that I had some interest in seeing, but after reading the reviews......
http://www.blackamericaweb.com/site....dex/10000bc307 BAW Film Review: The Dim ‘10,000 B.C.’ Should Have Been Called ‘Tarzan Goes to Egypt’ Date: Friday, March 07, 2008 By: Esther Iverem, SeeingBlack.com It is difficult to pick what is worse about the new action film “10,000 B.C.” Is it the white folks in bad dreadlock wigs? Is it the creation of a new Tarzan who tames African tribes? Is it the warping of Egyptian history to include a non-existent white king 10,000 years before the birth of Christ? Or is it the fact that this is another epic about rescuing a valued white woman? At least in “The Day After Tomorrow,” director Roland Emmerich tackled a serious topic and in that movie -- as well as in “Independence Day” -- offered amazing special effects. Unfortunately, in “10,000 B.C.,” the good special effects of prehistoric animals cannot overcome the vacuous and melodramatic plot. For this film, Emmerich seems to have taken his creative queues from movies from the 1950’s and 1960’s, as well as from reports of missing white girls on cable news programs. Beginning with the voice of a dead-sounding narrator, “10,000 B.C.” bombs from the start. The narrator lets us know that this will be the story of how the great “blue-eyed tribe” came to populate the Earth. With our non-Aryan eyebrows full raised, we are then directed to members of a small band of people called the Yagahl, who seem to reside in present-day Asia or Europe but, somehow, are able to walk all the way to Africa. A man named D’Leh turns out to be a leader for the Yagahl, and when many in his group are kidnapped by what appears to be a band of Arabs, D’Leh sets off with two other men and a boy to rescue them. The journey takes them from their cold environment, near a great, snowy mountain, to the tropics. Even if he does not know it, D’Leh’s journey has been prophesied, along with his relationship to one woman, Evolet, who he is pursuing to rescue. From the earliest frames of the movie, we learn that Evolet is special because she has blue eyes and skin that is paler than that of the other women around her. Prophesies are made about her. The Yagahl men vie for her hand. The evil leader of the marauding Arabs gazes into her aqua pools and takes Evolet as his special prize. The narrator lets us know that D’Leh is also special, so special that he can tame all manner of beasts, even some giant ostriches that should have died millions of years before with the rest of the dinosaurs. Amazed by D’Leh’s magical powers, leaders of African nations are happy to follow him. As it turns out, the evil Arabs have also kidnapped Africans, so what forms is a sort of prehistoric “coalition of the willing” that aims to rescue loved ones from the Arabs. If all these nonsense references to modern-day conflict in that region of the world aren’t bad enough, the noble ancient Egyptians take a real beating. No matter that, according to most accounts, habitation of the Nile Delta would not occur until 5,000 B.C. and the pyramids would not be built until even later. Only Hollywood could come up with such a story. You might remember that in 1966, Hollywood also brought us “100 Million B.C,” featuring the busty actress Raquel Welch wearing a loincloth and presenting the implausible combination of man and dinosaur sharing Earth at the same time. More than two decades later, Hollywood’s stereotypes and delusions -- as well as its worn-out theme of the white damsel in distress -- seem to be only getting worse. --- Esther Iverem is founder of SeeingBlack.com and author of “We Gotta Have It: Twenty Years of Seeing Black at the Movies, 1986-2006.” |

The movie was just odd from the start. From the accents, to the appearances, to the wide variety of different people/races all in one area, to the great distances traveled, to the animals.....just weird.....

That's the same excuse white people give. "it's just a movie" or "It's just entertainment." Hitler's theories were fiction too and look what he did. This movie is just another one of the white man's ongoing attempts to remind everyone else of his supremacy. |

I just got around to watching it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Times like this is why I just tune out the idiot black people who just love pull the race card in knee-jerk fashion everytime teh smell anything resembling a racial slight. To begin with it wasn't all about "white people in bad dreadlock wigs". It was a very good attempt at approximating what was reality... they came from a colder climate so likely they were lighter skinned. They didn't exactly shampoo and comb their hair (especially the men) so likely it matted up after some time. One of he lead characters is Cliff Curtis... who is Maori, not white. It just so happens we know his ethnic make-up, but we don't know the other characters as well so out of ignorance dat fool-ass gyal from BAW juss talking out she ass about white people in wigs... please! Also... it was a work of fiction, nobody said the evil empire depicted was Egyptian...even though the type of pyramids would lend to that conclusion... but no one even offered anything else even linking the empire to Egypt. Suppose they had used Olmec-type pyramids instead... would they say that the movie was trying to discredit pre-Mayan civilization? stupid knee-jerk reactionism at it's best. As for the rest of the criticism... the fact that this period was 10,000 B.C. absolutely explains why you'd encounter such diversity of races in a relatively small area. Geographically man hadn't spread as far upon the earth as of yet...but at the same time the differences in climate and environment would have still brought out mutations in phenotype suitable for the respective climates. Finally...it's just a movie. No need to go over it with a fine-toothed comb quibbling about historical accuracy... no one really gives a fack. Overall, decent, enjoyable movie... very reminiscent of Apocalypto. |

![]() @THREADThe MOVIE is FICTITIOUS in EVERY SENSE of the WORD. We're talking about 10,000 B.C. If you know a BIT of HISTORY, during that PERIOD in TIME, U know the MAIN CHARACTER, the ANIMALS and the PYRAMIDS do not FIT. |

Here is SOMEONE with a BIT of SENSE.
I REMEMBERED WATCHING the 10 COMMANDMENTS, as a YOUTH, and I BASICALLY BELIEVED everything that was SHOWN in that MOVIE, as being ACCURATE, especially as it PERTAINS to the BIBLE. But it is not until LATER on, from GAINING a BIT of KNOWLEDGE, I REALIZED that the movie was EXTREMELY INACCURATE and RACIST. |

WRONG! Modern Africans left Africa at least 50,000 years ago and that's more than enough time for humans to mutate into "phenotype suitable for the respective climates." Even the Americas were populated by Asiatic migrants before 10,000 BC. And we're not speaking of a small area, but thousands of miles between Euroasia and Northern Africa. And most likely, Africans would have been the dominant group in the Nile valley up to the "middle east" back then. The great sphinx is said to be at least 10,000 years old and it's obviously a portrait of an African king or diety. Take it from a visual artist, Images are Extremely Powerful. |

But wasn't she brown skinned? And weren't the hero's people suppose to be inuit based or something? And the black people weren't "tamed". The Tiger was. And their wisdom rivaled that of the inuit peoples. What was funny (and a lil racist) was the short mexican-esque people. But i enjoyed the movie. It was innacurate historically b.c it was fiction. but EVERY group of people satired in that movie was honored IMO. Last edited by Kjaja07; 07-05-2008 at 11:07 AM. |
