Vegetarianism:

It has come to my attention that a few people are crossing over to a vegetarian way of life!! So with that said, I hope to pass on this article for a lil' feedback.

Vegetarianism
Vegetarianism is on the rise. Sister and brothers are realizing that a more holistic way of living is a better and more fulfilling way of life. Less trips to the doctor for food borne illnesses and less money spent on OTC medications for problems caused by not eating properly.
There are several types of vegetarians:
(1) Lacto-ovo vegetarian - eats dairy and eggs but no other meat or animal products
(2) Lacto-vegetarian - eats dairy but no eggs, meat or other animal proudcts.
(3)Pesco-vegetarian- eats fish, but no other animal products
(4) Vegan - pure vegetarian - eats no dairy, meat or animal products.

(5) Pollo vegetarian- now this one is new to me. But it is a vegetarian who also eats chicken (baked or grilled breast). This is considered one who is in-between or on their way to a vegan diet. This one along with the pesco is supposed to be very good for you because it helps you eat less if you are a lacto-ovo vegetarian becase they tend to eat more fatty cheese, yogurt and milk to make up for not eating meat. It is easier to become a vegan in stages. First start by cutting pork (which is unclean) from your diet. Then red meat. Beef causes a severe strain on the digestive system. Not to mention that the health risk of e-coli are not even worth it. Just eliminating beef and pork from the diet can bring you a feeling of well being. Then gradually eliminate chicken/eggs and turkey. Try drinking soy milk as opposed to cow's milk. We (in the US) are the only country that preaches the drinking of cow's milk as a dietary need. Cow's milk is for the baby calf, not us!

Also, a vitamin/mineral supplement is essential. One from a health food store is best because they don't contain any synthetic substances.

Some other ways to live more holisticlly is to detox the body. Drink 1 - 3 gallons of water a day. At least a quart of that water should be the first thing you drink upon waking in the morning. It rids the body of toxins and mucus that build-up over night. A good guide is your body needs at leat half your weight in water to not become dehydrated. So if you are 100lbs you should drink at least 50oz of water a day. Most of us walk around in a semi-dehydrated state daily. If your urine is darker than lemonade your body needs more water. (source: 'African Holistic Health' by Llaila Afrika')

Eat less dairy and commit to more fresh friuts and veggies. Drink 100% juices instead of soda. Herbal teas instead of coffee.

A one day a week fast is a way to bring balance to your mind, body and soul. Fasting is not to be abused but to give your spirit a chance to regenerate and return to it's purest state.

Fasting is done by consuming only spring/distilled water, 100% juices and broths.

Also deep meditation is essential to a holistic lifestyle.

And of course before you start on any new plan you should consult your doctor(just gotta say that!).

How's the process been going for you, I know you're in the early stages and all? I was vegetarian for awhile a few years ago, but for me to go there will take time. I know for sure I love organic living right now.

Actually it's better than I thought...more expensive though, i mean i bought three nectarines and some rice dream milk and that was seven bucks lol....but it feels good. It's now a new set of limitation but truth be told I dont eat dairy anyways because i am lactose intolerant...so thats no problem...i dont eat eggs smells funny to me and i cant get pass the fact that it's and actual embryo lol. Dont eat red meat...so overall this vegan thing should be good. Also wont be eating anythin processed...no can goods, every vegatable and fruit has to be fresh(or at least as fresh as they allow here)

Well I crossed over to the vegi side, I guess it came along with the locking process, its not like i planned to just stop the whole meat thing, once I started my locs because trust me i didnt. I locked my hair in march and a month after meat just wasnt on my menu any more , I dont know i just lost all taste and cravings for meat. I think its much better though I dont regret it and I feel like i have made a great life change. Ive been a vegi for almost 3 months in counting.
Ital is vital lol

I have a question not just to you but to everyone, is it possible that some people stopped eating meat after they start growing locs because they feel either embarrassed or hypocritical to carry that hair style and not be a vegetarian
Just asking

Thanks!!

and to answer your question Natural High, I think when some people (and this is my opinion from people I know who've been through this) go through a transition with their hair, they also transition with their way of life which maybe daily habits, the way they eat, and just an overall change. But again it would be interesting to read other opinions!
