Ralph Lauren pulling its U.S. Polo Jeans line
by Elisabeth Butler
Apparel giant Polo Ralph Lauren today announced plans to pull its U.S. Polo Jeans Co. denim line from American stores as of next spring to focus on developing higher-priced premium denim lines under its Polo Ralph Lauren and Lauren brands. "It's a huge opportunity for them," says Alison Sokolove, a fashion analyst for young men's apparel at consulting firm Tobe. "Premium denim is one of the only things that sell at full price in department stores." Ralph Lauren's plan became possible in February, when the firm bought back the U.S. Polo Jeans Co. license from Jones Apparel Group for $355 million. That license had prevented Ralph Lauren from developing additional denim lines in the U.S. The company plans to continue selling Polo jeans in international markets. The retailer's stock price reacted favorably in early trading, jumping as much as 4.7% to $56.90. |

yeah, heard about this last wk. I guess now they want to make shitty fitting jeans and charge $200+ for them because of the current market for this price pt.
Funny, how they were looking for people to work on this line a couple of months ago..... My co-worker's friend works for them and she's looking (even though they said that they would "try" but not guarantee placement for those currently working on the line within the Ralph Lauren org) Last edited by Soca_Diva76; 05-24-2006 at 05:20 PM.. |
