For the females with relaxers............

Do you think you will ever go natural? I have thought about it, but, I really like my hair relaxed. I can more see myself being natural than having dreads though... I can see myself with some afro puffs faster than dreads!

What about you, ever thought about it?

Right now, out of all my immediate family, I am the only one with a relaxer! Some cut off their hair and have boy-cuts and the others have dreads.

i'm the opposite of you. i don't think i'll ever relax my hair again. even if i wanna wear my hair straight, i'd rather take the time and effort to blow dry and flat iron it. i like having the versatility of wearing my hair curly or straight whenever i want to. when my hair is relaxed my ends are always split no matter how often i trim the ends.

everyone was telling me to locs but i wasnt sure if that was me

so I gave up and straigtened it again......

but I will definitely try another time.......It just takes patience....and everyones hair is different, some easier than others

You see, at least you have that curly option because I don't have that, my hair kinks when wet, not curl! Before relaxers my mom kept my hair braided because otherwise it was a hard unmanageable mess. When my roots grow out, I get nervous....

Same here. I permed my hair for years. I've been natural for a long time now and there is no way I can see myself perming again. When I want to go with the straight look, I blow dry and flat iron. Most days, my hair is worn curly. those split ends from perming were no joke man.

this crosses my mind almost every 6-8 weeks when I'm due for a perm like rt now...should I grow it out some more or get a perm...

then I just give up and perm the damn thing....when I worry about how I'm going to look with short hair all natural or locs..I can't picture it...so that's why I stay this way...

the only good thing for me is that I can wet my hair on a regular especially on hot days and it comes back to a semi-natural look even with the relaxer in it..then I just blow and flat iron and I'm straight again...

so I'm not that badly off...

i should not even be in here b/c i no longer have a perm but when i did have it I ALWAYS pictured the day that i would grow ballz and dread my hair. Now that I have done it I am going through the "ugly stage" and oh so bad want to perm it again. But i am going to hold out and be patient b/c that is what it takes to have nice locs. I don't have the curly option i have REAL black hair and when wet will kink with no problem. lol!

Relaxer free for three years. I woke up one day and realized that I don't need to relax my hair. As long as I moisturize it consistently my hair would not break. I normally just blow dry and flat iron it when I want to wear it straight

I'm transitioning to natural right now...

My hair will probably be work though because its a curly/wavy/frizzy mix. But I just don't feel like dealing with the chemical thing anymore. Plus we have a stylist in the family but hair is now only their part time job. And I won't let anyone else put chemical in my hair... So natural it is!

man I had to change my hair style every week no joke. but when I went natural I realised that i had more styling options funny enough. and i always wanted to loc but was afraid about being "stuck" with it. but i can tell you i have never had more freedom with my hair and even though I went through the "ugly" stage it taught me so much. and I just FYI did not do "MAN HEAD" I just grew out my hair and began to during wash and sets trim out my hair's permed ends then one day I just loc'd it

Been perm-free for 14 years and have not looked back. Just started locking my hair 2 years ago.

my hair is thick hair...no waves, unless I sported a short fro. When i grew my hair out, I thought about texturizing it so that I could go from curly to straight when I wanted. Biggest mistake...more work than it was worth. I reached that fork in the road...perm, lock, or cut it down again. Some would say that I needed to experiment with my hair, but I knew what my hair could and couldn't do. I tried blowing it out and wet-setting it with the texturizer, and it was the biggest waste of time. My hair was a thick but soft fro and it was beautiful as is. It was never gonna behave like straight hair unless I permed or pressed it. Period. Plus, I don't have the patience to convince my hair to act straight when it clearly isn't. Therefore, I picked the option that was best for me.

If you decide to go natural, my advice is to get to know your hair's texture, and then WORK WITH IT, NOT AGAINST IT.....

If you want to try going perm-free, there's always braids/twists...
