Caribbean Weddings

My friend is planning to get married in 2008 in the Bahamas.

We are circulating ideas on what to include/exclude when planning this wedding. I would appreciate any help that you guys can give.

We are all really excited at this, as it will be the first time that one of my close friends will be getting married.

I cant be a major help because I didnt set up the wedding.lol but my aunt and uncle had their wedding in St.Thomas. It was great
For their first dance the played KC and Jojo - It was tell me it real or all my life(cant remember)
but I would recommend Dont Change by Musiq for the first dance Its a song with alot of meaning. Try Listening to it.
Sorry If i couldnt be much of a help.

Please do not have any cheesey Beach Boys fake Caribben themes.

I saw a wedding party that wore all off white and that was nice. All the bridesmaids were in offwhite with white roses and then the bride had a gorgeous colorful bouquet.

i heard of this wedding it was not in the caribbean but it was caribbean, african and sicilian, it was held in the brookyln museum, the ceremonial dance and singing was held on the first floor (i think nigerian - ibo or yoruba cannah remember exactly) but it was sung by a trini choral group, then marriage proceedings (catholic and protestant pastors) on second, and reception under the skywalk, i believe a steel pan played the bridal march, the marriage area was decorated like ancient egypt, the reception had trini, scilian and thai food (dere favourite food)

well, I think they are thinking about 150-200 people

Time of day - 4pm (ceremony)

I think it will be in a church and reception in a hotel. They are looking to do it properly as if they were in the UK because most of the grooms family live in the Bahamas

i got this info from wwwtheknot.com

-incorporate a little Caribbean culture without having a theme wedding: Bahamas, jam with a local steel drum band in true Bahamian style.

-The Best Times to Get Married in the Bahamas: January, February, March, April, November, and December

an idea from a real wedding in Bahamas:
Shell Game
Lori and Mark started getting guests in the mood right away, incorporating a seashell theme on all their wedding-related correspondence. The save-the-dates and programs were both printed on stationery featuring seashells, and the invitations were sealed with shells. At the reception, seashells filled the bases of the centerpieces
Wedding Drums are Ringing
The ceremony was held outside on the Lagoon Overlook patio sheltered by giant palms. "I wanted to be barefoot on the beach," Lori says, "but the beach site was surrounded by sun tanners and jet skis -- not my idea of a wedding backdrop!" The patio proved to be the perfect setting, complemented by details that included processional music performed on a steel drum.
In contrast to the exotic backdrop, Lori opted for a romantic, traditional look. She walked down the aisle in a champagne-color two-piece gown by Demetrios with a corset top, sweetheart neckline, and beaded embellishment at the neck and waist. Her bridesmaids wore pale pink strapless dresses.
Both Lori and her attendants carried bouquets created by the mother of the bride, a professional florist. The arrangements featured pink and ivory roses with white calla lilies wrapped in white satin for the bride, and pink satin for her maids.
After the ceremony, guests headed indoors to the Atlantis Grand Ballroom for the reception. The tables were decorated with scattered seashells and photographic confetti, which surrounded centerpieces created by the bride's mother. Clusters of calla lilies and long grass sprouted from square glass vases, the bottoms of which were filled with gold sand and shells. These were placed on heart-shaped mirrors and surrounded with glowing votive candles. Following a sit-down dinner, guests indulged in the gorgeous wedding cake. The three-tier red velvet cake was ornamented with calla lilies at the top and base, and each layer was wrapped with a satin ribbon to echo the style of Lori's bouquet.
