CLAUDIA PEGUS (Womenswear, Limited Menswear)
Claudia Pegus is a rare Caribbean designer - avante garde, high fashion and Caribbean based. Her pieces are sold to an exclusive clientele across the globe. Claudia's one of a kind creations are cutting edge but wearable. They make a bold statement about the wearer's personal style. Pegus'clothes are fresh, innovative and decidedly sensual. CPFS is her limited edition, ready to wear line. These collections are more under stated, yet equally appealing. Georgettes, silks, linen, crepes cotton, denim, chiffon and raw silk are just some of her fabric choices. While not screaming 'tropical,' there is a cool Caribbean sensuality that subtly influences the Claudia Pegus line. Visit Claudia at http://www.claudiapegus.com/ |

:: MUTAMBA (Women's Wear, Limited Men's Wear)
Mutamba, composed of the design team Mutabaruka (the famous Jamaican dub poet) and Amber Cohen, started life in the 1980s when Amber began collecting fabrics, art pieces, and accessories from Africa and South America. Her interest in fashion design evolved from this new passion and resulted in a more recent collaboration with her friend Mutabaruka. The Mutamba line is therefore an eclectic mix of ethnic chic and everyday simplicity. Combined with a wide range of accessories created from materials collected from around the world, their creations have imbued their loyal fans with a similar passion and excitement. Mutamba favors cottons, linens and silks and her designs are clearly influenced by Amerindian spirits and Africa traditions, with a touch of India and a flavor that is truly Caribbean. Her clients include Eryka Badu, Beverly Johnson and Lauren Hill. |

MONCRIEFFE (Women's and Men's Wear)
An icon of Caribbean dance, Barry Moncrieffe's artistry is reflected in a disciplined/structured approach to fashion design. His ever-changing exploration of black and white always produces fresh, classical looks. Simple cottons and linens are made wearable for day, soft georgettes and knits are transformed into moving expressions of glamour for evening. Men's wear is colorful and loosely structured. The Moncrieffe name has become synonymous with top quality. |

This is great, I'm making a list of local designers to visit when I reach Trinidad.
Here is an article I found about Claudia Pegus' comments on the Caribbean Fashion industry. Claudia Pegus calls for support After her return from Caribbean Fashion Week in Jamaica, fashion designer Claudia Pegus made public her thoughts on the local fashion industry. “ Local Manufacturer’s produce inferior copies of those brands from abroad,” she said angrily. She maintained that our local fashion industry has a lot of potential, both here and throughout the Caribbean. “It is a multi-billion dollar industry, which can accommodate all designers.” “We don’t even have to look at America for export deals,” she added matter-of- factly. Pegus is unhappy with the current production of local manufacturers, saying that they produce similar items to that of brands such as Fubu. “We need to have machines running, we need the manufacturers to get together with the local designers and then that is when the funding organizations will see that they will be getting worth.” In a bid to show her determination and seriousness toward the lack of support, Pegus has decided to transcend all her energies toward the Caribbean Market. “I wish I could get manufacturers to work with me to create some greater volume,” Pegus said regrettably. “In the next five years we have to work together,” she boldly added. “You can see the potential coming out of the region.”
