It can be used for both but especially when you are letting her hair out.

sorry I worded the above badly. I was referring to another leave-in that I use that I just dont remember the name of it right now but I ran all my thoughts into one .

I dont have a clue what the consistency of the Giovanni one is like, so I was asking you what it was. I am thinking of giving the Giovanni a try.

Tresemme Naturals
Giovanni Direct Leave-In
That one is a lot better IMO, than Giovanni which my hair absorbed like a sponge. It left it soft, but with a little coating that I wasn't feeling (nope wasn't heavy handed with it either).

Wet hair for me means all my hair goes to 2" from my scalp and that makes the task more difficult.
ahhh yes shrinkage...the love/hate relationship for naturals.

well, that may be you associating natural hair with being in a curly state..i must of missed where it was speicifed...the only state natural hair can be is "curly"...i made the suggestion that Poca dry the child hair and not style it while wet..its YOU who assumed the dry hair would be in its CURLY state

Poca posted the child's hair, and it was in its curly state.

so I'm finding that the twist butter dries my hair out by 2nd/3rd day and I have to constantly re-apply and twist - but then have too much build up....well for me anyways cause I dont like a ton of stuff on my hair.

so I did a DIY approach to see if I could re-moisturize my hair without adding more store bought products.

I steeped fresh rosemary in hot water. Added aloe vera juice once it cooled. Then added some vitamin E oil, rose oil and olive oil.

I spritzed that mixture on my hair and then put a bit of argan oil on the ends before doing a 2-strand twist.

when I pulled it out the following morning my hair was ....and still is really soft plus the curls are holding really well without being dry and frizzy. I still have lots of curl definition on day 2 going into day 3.

I'm going to stick with this routine for the week and see how my hair feels by the end of it :))

DIY hair recipes

I find these are sometimes the best, but it's always about finding the g-d ingredients. Just sharing what I found today since again the office is dying down for early release (at least for some of us).

Coconite Henna Bars
For the Mixtresses: Coconite Cassia Bars (God loves a cheeful giver) | lola zabeth

Here's a list of DIY treatments for your hair and body (she has a section dedicated to it, and some of them look like they'll be fun for a spa day)
DIY Hair Treatments | derby city naturals

Slippery Elm Leave-in
For the Mixtresses: Slippery Elm Leave-In + is it really black and white? | lola zabeth

Screw it she has a whole section dedicated for mixes too
hair care recipes | lola zabeth
DIY | Curl Rehab
Here's one I did when I was in college, and tried to stretch my budget. Hair loved it, and it made my hair shine for a couple of days (didn't do all of that moisturizing and sealing crap back then anyway):
  • 1 whole avocado
  • 2 big squirts of honey
  • 6 drops of cinnamon oil (got it from the hispanic section at shoppers)
  • some ORS deep conditioner
Mashed everything together, and left that in while I was doing one of my many history reports. Rinsed probably about an hour later (wasn't keeping track of time honestly), and put my hair in some braids for bed. Woke up to soft shiny hair. I would post my shea aloe mix I did when I cut my hair again, but I can't really remember portions. I know I used probably 3 tbls of shea butter (maybe more ), not sure how much aloe vera gel, peppermint oil (not sure how many drops), and rosemary oil (again not sure how much). It also wasn't as cake frosting as the one I purchased, but it did it's job as a moisturizer.

okay lemme go back to searching. please share any you've found, or some that you have done in the past that were awesome.

Nice post Mz J

I'm gonna look the links closer when I'm home. I'm not in the mood to keep trying new products anymore to find one that works best for my in-between hair. If I can use stuff out of my kitchen for the next little while I will be cool. I'm not adding any more bottles of product to my bathroom shelves...

That was my understanding of the conversation overall, not simply your post. Sorry if you misunderstood.

poor yuh

hindsight is 20/20 aint it?! lol

I just had a few un-interrupted minutes to go through the links and there is some good info there.

I am really digging the aloe vera juice in my hair....it seems to be loving it. The concoction I hobbled together was from bits and pieces of info found across a bunch of blogs over time.
I am still unsure what to do with the big blob of raw shea butter I have but the links u posted gave me a few ideas.

I cant remember if I posted this earlier but I've made my own clarifying rinse that works well for my hair and my scalp LOVES it. No more itchiness after a few days like before:

-3 parts water
-1 part ACV
-10 drops tea tree oil
-8 drops Japanese mint oil
-10 drops Vitamin E oil
-10 drops lavender oil

soak my scalp and hair for 30 minutes (with a bag on my head) before rinsing out and then shampooing/co-washing as normal.

Girl I was definitely on a budget that day. LOL Your mixture sounds heavenly. I do a spritz of aloe Vera juice, conditioner, water and peppermint oil. Believe me my scalp and hair loves it especially if I add evoo. It's not as dry orr ashy (I have psoriasis and it loves it).

Ohhh, it does smell nice and I love that tingly feeling from the mint/tea tree oils! Its amazing how well they both work at reliving dry skin/psoriasis/eczema.

I've been drinking the aloe vera juice for digestion and after reading its good for hair, I gave it a try. So glad I did!

After I added up my receipts over the past few months on hair products, I was like oh hell no.....there has to be a less expensive process of discovering what my hair likes vs doesnt like....to my kitchen I go

But I have to be grateful...I normally need to relax my hair every 6 weeks because my roots are sooo thick. I'm on month 4 without relaxer (I think its 4 months..hmmm) and I really have had little breakage at my hairs's weakest point. Hopefully I can manage this until the fall before I consider cutting.
