I tried marky kay foundation on saturday and was QUITE impressed. It was a liquid but very matte. I used a very little amount and got coverage i needed without concealer on my nder eyes and pox dot on my cheek.
The shadow and lip gloss was also impressive. |

Seriously i have dark under eyes too.. I used concealer from mac but i find it not working anymore... i used that mary kay and it worked great.. I just put a little more foundation at those spots BUT I started using this timewise thing 2x a day and i find it's working with Amazon.com: Timewise Targeted-action Eye Revitalizer .34oz: Health & Personal Care |

I've used this thing called Hylexin...you can buy it at Ulta or Sephora...it's about $95.00. Works for me. Brightens under the eye.

My Make-up
Those who know me know that I'm a make-up fanatic and have been for years! I'm pretty much free-lancing in that department nowadays, having done make-up for grads, a wedding, a mas band launch and just people and friends in general. I'm not saying I'm a pro, but I just thought I would share with you what I use on myself and some tips I've discovered.
Foundation- daily- Bare Minerals foundation (it's loose), it's airy light and has SPF which is great, it's messy, but the key is to not rip off the seal when you open the jar, just punch about 3-4 holes and shake out what you need. I recently bought Queen Latifah's Queen mineral pressed powder to see how it works, not bad and a lot cheaper. I still feel Bare Minerals gives a nicer finish though. I'm trying to stick the mineral route as much as I can. Foundation- going out- When I need a little more coverage in certain parts of my face that tend to be darker, I use MAC's Studio Stick SPF 15 Foundation, it feels smooth like gliding on a lipstick on your face, lol. Once you blot it on, use a large concealer brush to smooth it and blend. I then dust over with the Bare Minerals above. I have dry skin, so I need products that provide as much moisture as possible, which brings me to... ...Concealer- I use MAC's MoistureCover, it comes in an applicator like their lipglasses and it's a breeze to put on because of that, you don't get your hands dirty, just apply and use a concealer brush to smooth over. I love that it's not hard like some concealers tend to be. Eye-Shadow Primer- Urban Decay tinted primer potion. You can also use concealer, but I prefer this. Eye-Shadows- You will be surprised to know that a lot of the cheaper ones you see in hair beauty supply stores or drugstores are just as good as any MAC, Make-up Forever or high end lines...the key is a good primer and brushes. NYX (not NYC) is an excellent cheapo line and their eye-shadow jumbo pencils are the BEST! They go on smooth and work even better than MAC's ShadeSticks...the best part is they're about $3 each as opposed to $16.50 with MAC. NYX has some great loose shadows as well, comparable to MAC Pigments. HiP by L'Oreal is also great for darker skin tones, wait until Rite Aid or your local drugstore has BOGO free though! Like I mentioned above, get some good brushes! Natural bristles for shadows and synthetic work best for liquids. The applicators that come in some eye shadows do not always cut it, but are good for quick jobs. I have from MAC to ELF cosmetic brushes ($1 each!), I have Sonia Kashuk for Target brushes too, she's a known MUA (make-up artist). Your secret weapon is your blending brush, gives an airbrushed, seamless finish. If you're going to go with MAC, I recommend waiting until their holiday sets come out, it's a better bargain. Another thing, believe it or not, are artist paint brushes, yup...for every MAC brush, there is a paint brush equivalent for a fraction of the cost, the only thing is their handles are a little longer. If you're a beginner in the whole eye-shadow world, I see Maybelline has a quad where it tells you where to apply each color...crease, lid, etc. Another trick is to go to any make-up counter in a dept store for a demo, you usually have to buy some products, but it's worth it! Eye liners- I like Sephora's thin and thick pencils, as well as Avon's glimmersticks. L'Oreal's cream eye liner is great if you're still not confident with liquid liner and want a little more control, it comes with an angled brush. NYX also has great pencil liners. Mascara- Jeez, now this is a dept. I am constantly trying new products in!! Currently I am using L'Oreal's Voluminous Carbon Black Waterproof for going out, I've used Panoramic Curl, decent. Maybelline's Define-a-Lash really does what it says, but I find it's more for everyday. Just bought their Lash Stiletto, but it's still in the wrapper! There are the new vibrating ones now to achieve that make-up artist technique of wiggling the brush to get more product on the lash. But if you can do that on your own, no need to spend $15 minimum on a vibrating one. Blush- MAC's in the shade Format, perfect for darker skin tones and gives you a natural glow. Lips- I prefer glosses and tend to use MAC's tinted lipglasses, but another fav is good ole Victoria's Secret in the tubes! Always put lip balm on as a primer for a better application. You can also put on lipstick, blot it with tissue and apply a gloss on top if you want a little more color under your gloss. That's it for now! I've attached 3 sections I did makeup for for Ramajay's band launch in May. Last edited by montREALady; 10-14-2009 at 05:00 PM.. |

I've recently taken to using MAC's studio tech foundation and i love it!!! Black Opal works well for me too (as an every day option) For mascara I use maybelline (pink tube with green cover) and for glosses i love the mac lipglasses AND the VS Beauty Rush!!!! those are by far my faves!!!! For e/s i agree on the L'oreal Hip....and i recently bought a palette fromClaire's (yep yep lol) that's actually REALLY good...also wetting the brush prior to application makes the shade more intense and gives it serious staying power and the MU on those girls look awesome |

Yes wetting the brush is great...another trick, VISINE! Yup, try it. It's the glycerine that works wonders. You can make your own batch with glycerine and bottled water, but Visine is easier, lol. Thanks! |

The foundation is not too bad...I hardly ever do full face coverage...just even out and top with powder (Sally Hansen's corn Silk)...I actually end up with a pretty natural 'glow'. Bought a lip stick from MAC recently too...Brave Red...I love it...now i just need somewhere to wear it definitely not for every dayoh and I hear you on those NYX shadows....they also have the loose ones in the pots that IMO rivals MAC's will definitely try the visine...I bought two brushes from Body Shop last week (e/s) so will give it a trial run on the weekend and see how that turns out...paint brushes...who knew!!!! I haven't invested much in brushes though....i'm more of a product junkie....one of those pple that have a ton of stuff that i hardly use lol....i need an intervention |
