Lisa D. McGill is a scholar, author, entrepreneur, advocate, trailblazer, daughter, spouse, and mother with a fervent determination to make a difference in the lives of underrepresented communities. Her book, Constructing Black Selves: Caribbean American Narratives and the Second Generation (NYU Press November 2005), is a labor of love and an ode to immigrants who have shared their hearts, souls, joy, and tears with their new homeland in an effort to make a better life for themselves and for their children.

Lisa received her doctorate and masters of philosophy and arts in American Studies at Yale University. Her undergraduate degree, in English modified with Latin American and Caribbean Studies, is from Dartmouth College.
