Atlas Shrugged

Anyone read this book or any of Ayn Rand's books? What are your thoughts of it (them)?

The Fountain Head
We the Living
Novella Anthem

I liked all four. We the living is loosely based on her life supposedly. My favorite was the Fountainhead of course. Anthem had a kind of 1984 feeling to it.

We the living is based on life's philosophy.
Novella Anthem had a 1984 feeling to it. Forgive me, but I am following.
Howard Roark in Fountainhead is excellent.

Yeah he is. Truly inspiring. And Toohey is truly the epitome of the masses trying to pull down inspiration. But ironically, both he and Wynard are failed versions of what Roark represents.

What about the Atlas Shrugged, is it as compelling as the others?

A little more fantastical, but just as interesting. In Anthem creativity is subjugated, in Atlas Shrugged it abandons the mediocre.

You're not the first I have heard made this remark. That is the "boring" part. How different is it from her beliefs?

Interesting you say that, when Atlas Shrugged has been billed as her faved work, yet Anthem is the one that get the audience pumped more. in my opinion.

I picked up atlas shrugged specifically to get insight into objectivism, what I got was a story that bored me to tears and took far too long to get going. I still have the book and maybe someday I'll finish it but the woman simply is not a compelling writer.

You have me laughing! You funny! But honestly speaking there are quite a few books that do that to me. I have a pile to complete. (one great day-Yes, I know I have to stop proscastinating!) But did you try reading any of her other books?

Nope.
I figured if this woman was a good writer I wouldn't have to force myself to read.
It's all well and good to have a message but if that message is buried in a boring, and long, book then I'm not interested.
I also have piles of books but I dont lie to myself I know they're never gonna get read.

Different tastes for different people. Lots of people find your writings just as boring.

LOL. Yes we know, you like to call anyone that disagrees with generic insults. Not original, but neither are you. Ayn Rand is not for everyone. But she obviously had enough talent to be recognized multiple times. I honestly preferred the Fountainhead 20 times more then Atlas Shrugged.

LOL. Coming from a useless moron like yourself who tries to come off as intelligent by making disparaging comments on all types of subjects, without adding much of value, the comment means next to nothing. All you do is type to try to impress others with your over-verbosity.
