So wha ya sayin Obie? Dat Caribbean artiste cannot go up against a R&B or Rap artiste? Based on de culture and de standards ah we music Destra can more than hold she own against Alicia Keys! Yuh comparin' two different styles! I ain't know how Alicia would do wit soca or how Destra would do wit R&B, but people need to give we music a listenin' chance!
Watch how Beyonce dippin' into Reggae, watch she dip into Soca jus' now! Because we are not a main music to Yankees don't mean we don't have "Skills" :p |

Re: Word on da street about de island music
Do you realize that it takes a certain sense of rhythm and soul that allows an artiste to delve into caribbean music. And the majority of them can only get by with Reggae Music - They have Caribbean people that don't have the soul and sense of rhythm to sing caribbean music. That is why they go to HIP HOP which personally with a few very few exclusions - doh tek much skills anyhow. If you check your sats you will realize that more caribbean artiste have successfully melted into the American R&B, SOUL and HIP HOP music. Alicia Keys and Beyonce, etc cannot be compared to Allison, Destra, etc because their music is being introduced in different markets. By the way have you ever checked bands like Traffik, Square 1 and others live performances when they touch the popular R&B tunes and they do a damned good job. Now that is SKILLZ. |
