When Bajan Soca was great
We didn't care about carnival, we were making music for Crop Over, for Bajans.
We didn't sing about Chipping or about "carnival". We mad music for Bim. It annoys me when Jabeah sings "Nothing sweeter than Carnival" and when Bajan's sing about Chipping on kadooment day. Do you think there is a connection? |

I ain't Bajan but I don't think Bajan soca is that bad right now. A lot of the groovy songs that came out this year I like. If anything, BIM needs more solid uptempos this year.
However, I get what you mean about some of the content in some songs. Chances are, an artist like Jabae is not singing a song about Carnival because he's trying to reach Bajans alone. He probably wants that song in TnT for 2k9. |

I have no problem with Machel(and friends) in Bim actually I think some of their songs are more Bajan than some local one. Granted they ARE produced by a Bajan but their Ragga Socas have that driving Bajan "slow wuk" feel while a lot of the ragga socas like Sun Till Sun have "sweet wine"/chipping feel. Don't get me wrong, a sweet wine is nice, but come Kadooment day we want to Wuk Up and get on bad. |

However, I totally understand the way you feel about the Bajan "wine for carnival" type songs being released for Cropover. If you Bajan and you want to release those type of songs for TnT Carnival to get your name out in that island, it makes sense to me. But if you singing for Cropover and you singing about "wine for carnival" when Bajans "wuk up for cropover", I don't see the sense. |
