it must have something strong about it, either chords or bassline or drums something that will make people remind it.. like neptunes use broken beats and chords..

I am of the opinion that MOST people will like a song with a good beat but poor lyrics. So I would think that normally concentrating a really good beat could make or break a song.

Honestly, i'm not sure it makes a difference. As a writer, every song takes on a life of its own, there just isn't any one formula for success to always follow like a blueprint. Sometimes you hear a riddim and just ride it and come up with a melody and then lyrics to accompany it; sometimes you just write with a melody and/or lyrics first and then the music flows out of it afterwards. Like the saying goes there's more than one way to skin a cat.

I think building a track around a good melody definitely makes a difference.
You can structure your lyrics then..

I'm aware of that dawg but i meant on average which would yield better results. I know of a story where the producer (Peter Coppin of MonstaPiece) built a instrumental while the artist freestyled in the booth.

I will have to agree with Mystic. I too am a songwriter and so far I've only written 3 songs to a pre-recorded rythm.

Generally when I written I usually have a melody in my head then I pen lyrics to the melody. The music is then arranged around how I sing the song. As for saying which method is better I can't really say. I concentrate a lot on lyrics. To me the lyrics of a song is supposed to tell you a story so it has to make sense to me. It is sometimes a bit more difficult in my mind to write to a rythm because you really have to be into it to write anything.

What I'm saying is, I think that's impossible to determine, and there's no hint of rhyme or reason why one would yield better results over the other.
