I believe the original name for our music is kaiso (which reflects both our music’s French and African roots; don't forget kaisos were originally sung in French-patois) but the English referred to it as and spelt it as Calypso when they tried to explain what this popular form of music was and where it's from, in their dictionaries.

So in a similar manner to how soca is a misspelling of the original word sokah (that Shorty came up with), calypso is the English man's misspelling of the original word kaiso that we came up with for our music.

However once one understands what the word stands for then the spelling or misspelling doesn't really matter too much.

Bless

This is where you're wrong.

Shorty SPECIFICALLY said that the KAH in SOKAH is to REFLECT the INDIAN in the MUSIC.

Well, I am TELLING U and all the other KNUCKLEHEADS that the KAH in SHORTY'S SOKAH doesn't REFLECT in 97% of the music from that ERA.

So again, the CLAIM GOES AGAINST what was put out there in the INDUSTRY.

SOCA (CALYPSO and SOUL) is a REFLECTION of 97% of the music from that ERA.

It is that SIMPLE...this is not ROCKET SCIENCE.
Colors likes this.

Why are you so angry that you are resulting to cursing? Is it because your true motives are being revealed? Yes, that's what it is.

On the topic at hand, you refuse to admit that that soca rhythmic pattern incorporates African & Indian influences. Outside of that, there are varying degrees of influence from none to plenty.

Your prejudice is in the way. *shrug*

I did not intend to post anymore in this thread but wanted to give Mrs Vega some info on what I know about the origin of the word calypso.

I don't intend to engage in any more debates with those guys about Soca as I now know it’s a total waste of time.

Bless

It is a WASTE of TIME because your ARGUMENTS have NO CURRENCY here.

Like I have said numerous times before, you're not SAYING anything NEW that has not ALREADY been STATED in this FORUM.

Everything that you have stated have been UTTERED in this FORUM since 7 to 8 years ago. Therefore, you're not BRINGING any NEW to the DISCUSSION.

So yes, FEEL FREE from WASTING your TIME POSTING STUFF already ADDRESSED here many times over a PERIOD of 7 YEARS.
