Music Other than soca/calypso In your Island

What are some of the other speaking Musical forms from the Anglophone Caribbean?

In T&T we have chutney, parang, pan, and although nobody really listens or makes it anymore cariso (the precurser to calypso, griot music in other words)

unfortunate! like most of the other islands, we don't seem to respect what has been ours for generations. Love reggae music but not at the expense of what we - (speaking of the islands who created calypso and soca and the various forms) created.

After last years best selling artist, I notice there is a massive push to shove reggae down everyones throats at the cost of calypso and soca and no one seems to care or give a damn.

Yea but i think Reggae has fallen off in the last couple of years. Now ppl just like it cuz its jamaican or some shyt. These new ppl aren't doing anything special.

Besides, I meant indigenous forms of music. Lynn Tait was in Jamaica when he invented Rocksteady, so idk if you could count it.

Honestly, innovations in both Genre's come from each other. If you as an Antiguan can call soca yours, you should also be able to claim reggae as well. Many innovations in Reggae stemmed from soca and vice versa. It stands to reason that at least ONE of them could have come from antigua. I take the "if its from here, its we ting!" approach. But T&T runs tings lol

I love chutney, parang and pan...listen to all three. Those genres will always be on my playlist. Trini music is not just soca and calypso...
