Kevin Lyttle about to blow up...
I was listening to Z100 yesterday and they played turn me on and were majorly hyping it. "This is going to one of the songs of the summer"..."This is the new one from Kevin Lyttle folks..listen up"... For those of you who don't know, Z100 is a white station in NY, its the largest most listened to station in the nation. It plays all kinds of music from hip hop to rock. Having your song publicized by this station is like getting it on the TRL countdown on MTV. It's HUGE... way bigger than getting it on Hot 97 etc... b/c exposure -wise this station reaches the CD purchasing demographic (i.e. young white kids--and that's just a fact not opinion). So as much as Vincypowa has made me want to hate on this man I have to give it up, because I think the man is finally about to blow up in the states. More power...

I must say as an aspiring songwriter I am very impressed and inspired by what I've heard from Kevin's album. The production is VERY impressive and vindicates my belief that soca can and will go mainstream. The reaction I've seen in the clubs also show that soca will make it. I requested the song at a mainly white club in Tampa and was so pleased by the response that I was inspired to write two songs when I got home! LOL
Some of my fav tracks heard so far: Turn Me On(classic) Last Drop(great video, nice bassline) If You Want Me(great mix of soca and RnB) I Got It(nice uptempo jam, love de drum pattern) My Lady(wicked beat) My Love(awesome cover, nice island jam) Some of the tracks sound too much like dancehall(Screaming Out My Name) and "So High" is absolute shit...easily the worst song on the album but all in all the album is very good and a must buy for any aspiring soca writer/singer/producer. Big Respect to Atlantic Records and Kevin Lyttle Can't wait for Rupee's album |
