i believe there r 2 versions of this song by Denise.
the first is called "Hard Wuk" released in 97 and goes something like: "gimme hard wuk, round de clock, gimme hard wuk, come ruff me up......wuk wuk wuk make me perspire, wuk wuk wuk ah say gimme pressure....nah nah nah nah nah nah" (damn i think i gonna go listen 2 dat now). and then the house/techno kinda tune "Work" ... salty |

The first, "Hard Wuk" was written by Black Stone - a calypsonian best known for penning hits for other soca artists in the late 90's most notably Denise's debut smash "KaKaLayLay", among others... It was produced during her Kisskidee Records days (early in her solo career). "Work" was co-written by Harkness Taitt (who also contributed as a writer to Machel's "Big Phat Fish" and "D Wrecker") and Patrick "Vybe" Gordon (now known as Mista Vybe) and produced by Anastas "Nas-T" Hackett (producer of many soca hits including Machel's "Toro" and Iwer's "Tractor") during her days as a Rituals Records artist (right before her big comeback with "Panic", (having left Rituals). At the time of its release (in 1999), "Work" received hardly any airplay in Trinidad during or after carnival but it was fairly popular on the soca scene in North America, Canada etc. Eventually "Work" was RE-released (including the linked video) by the well-known dance remix duo Masters At Work (AKA "Little Louie" Vega & Kenny Dope) in Europe. The original "remix is pretty much indistinguishable from the original "soca" version... however there are several other more dance-influenced mixes as well done by Masters At Work. Since then the MAW (Masters At Work) re-release has continued to enjoy popularity on the club circuit throught Europe. As a matter of fact Belfon performed the song (along with Masters At Work) at the MTV Europe awards a couple years back. The song has also been seen favourable response having been additionally released in Japan... Remember... don't kill the messenger... ;-) Last edited by MuzikkMan; 10-17-2006 at 09:27 PM.. |
