Congrats to Benjai. One of the most talented artists in the industry. Keep an eye on him. He hasn't done half of what he is capable of yet.

I hear he is coming out with some big things in the near future.

Look at my boy tears!!!

Brian London is the new Young King. He delivered a scintillating performance on Monday night at Pier I, Chaguaramas, and won the crown ahead of 14 other competitors.

With the cool sea breeze bringing a chill to the night air, London provided warmth with his songs, “Win Back We Nation” and “We Free.”

He was accompanied by free-wheeling dancers, and had sections of the audience waving frantically.

London, who performs with the Kaiso Showcase calypso tent, was confident coming into the competition.

“I think the response I got from my songs anytime I performed made me confident that I could win,” he said.

London is the 20th winner of the crown and he held off stiff competition from Benjai, who placed second, and third-placed Abbi Blackman.

Benjai sang half of “Start Over” a capella after a miscue by the band, but when the music returned he didn’t miss a beat.

Abbi Blackman, joined by dancers and drummers, paid a stirring tribute to her father Ras Shorty I in the song “Calling Shorty I.”

While the audience witnessed several commendable performances, London was the star of the night.

He won kudos for “Win Back We Nation,” a song which called on all races and religions to band together to save T&T.

London said: “From the signs of the times you could see that no Prime Minister or police could win back the nation. It must be an effort by everybody to bring about change.”

He said he was excited about his chances of reaching the Dimanche Gras final

How they placed

1. Brian London

2. Benjai

3. Abbi Blackman

4. Impulse

5. Wendy Thomas

6.Duane O’Connor

7. Ras Kommanda

8. Sean Caruth

8. Kerwin Trotman

10. Marva McKenzie

Prize money

1st — $70,000

2nd — $35,000

3rd — $20,000
