    Classic soca from vinyl

A few years ago, a Trini neighbor lent me some vinyl, which I recorded onto CD. Here's a sampling of some of the best. Some of the songs i've since bought on Cd.

I have dis on at least 2 compilations, but I like the vinyl rip better.

MI LOVER LORD NELSON - Putfile.com

Same as the Nelson above. The CD versions of "Lorraine" on the Explainer and Charlies compilations that I own don't sound as good. The vinyl mix has de iron up front.

    LORRAINE EXPLAINER - Putfile.com

DOTHAT TO ME LORD NELSON - Putfile.com

Before Drupatee and Crazy's "nani" songs.

    SO NANNY SCRUNTER - Putfile.com

Great Iron on Roses' "Solomon.". I miss the percussion in today's soca.

    SOLOMON ROSE - Putfile.com

    Nice lovers soca by Duke.
TREAT YUH WOMAN NICE DUKE - Putfile.com

LOVE HAPPINESS by BLUEBOY uses melody from the Cuban standard, "el manicero."
The Blueboy songs were a revelation to me. Before, I had only heard his jump up songs and parts of Soca Baptist on the radio.

    LOVE HAPPINESS BLUEBOY - Putfile.com

    DARLIN BLUEBOY - Putfile.com

    RETREAT BLUEBOY - Putfile.com

DOTHAT TO ME LORD NELSON - Putfile.com

DOTHAT TO ME LORD NELSON - Putfile.com

    EMILY GYPSY - Putfile.com

    VEX MONEY EXPLAINER - Putfile.com

    I heard only these before:

MI LOVER LORD NELSON - Putfile.com

    LORRAINE EXPLAINER - Putfile.com

TREAT YUH WOMAN NICE DUKE - Putfile.com

Thanks for the chance to hear these classics.
I listened to the others over the past few days.

ken_yatta You have some nice selections of classic soca from the 80's. Some of these songs I have on vinyl. I have imeem page with massive loads of earlier soca. I converted from my records to cd's. Here's the link Soca Lover on IMEEM If you're interested.

    Enjoy

My uncle in Queens has hundreds of old soca and reggae lps . I'll have borrow a dozen or so next time i go up there. I'd like to find old Charlies Roots songs like "calabash" & "callalou" that I've heard on the radio. And there's a sweet Rose song called "warrior" that didn't make the 2 disc compilation that came out last year. It's outrageous that these songs havn't been re-released on CD.
