Calypsoul 70 - Caribbean Soul 1969-1979

New compil of cross over music from the late 1960's to mid 1970's. Only "Raycan" by The Hondrells sounds anything close to what was labeled soca in Trinidad. However, its a good overview of some of the artists that were blending calypso with soul and funk before the soca era.

I thought Calypsoul was suppose to have calypso influences in it ?

Only songs that don't sound like regular soul and reggae to me are

- Raycan, which definitely sounds like old time soca beat to me
- Freedom in Africa, which sounds like old time soca beat to me
- Yo Tink It Sorf, which sounds like old time soca beat to me, all iron
- Calypsoul, which sounds like old time soca beat to me

Now, this ain't to start no argument about where soca comes from, I''m just saying, if you'd played those songs to me on any given day and didn't tell me it was calypsoul, I'd think it was old time soca.
