....AGAIN?

I THINK THIS DEFINITELY DESERVES A POST. NOW AS I RECALL IN A THREAD OF A POST I READ THAT IN 2000 FLAMES WERE PELTED BY AN AUDIENCE AND OUNGKU DECIDED TO NEVER TO PLAY IN TRINIDAD AGAIN AND HE HAS REFUSED OFFERS TO PLAY THERE AND THE BAND WOULDN'T EVEN GO THERE TO BACK UP ONIKA.

WELL AS A FAN, I WOULD LIKE FULL DETAILS IF POSSIBLE...WHAT CREATED THE INCIDENT?...FOR WHAT REASON WERE THEY PELTED? AND IS THERE ANYWAY THAT OUNGKU WOULD REVERSE THIS DECISION OR ANY REASON TO DO SO.

I AM JUST CURIOUS.

WAS THIS ALSO A REASON WHY ESTER PARTED WITH FLAMES?

Ya know...I had a convo w/ one of the flames members the other night...I won't go into detail...and perhaps it was the liquor talking, but I found him to be a bit negative about other bands. Sayin that other bands don't give back(ie. charge too much to perform)...All I have to say is other bands deserve more money & to have to reduce their price to compete w/ other bands who have not established themselves yet, is not the answer. I mean...ok, flames been around long time & maybe they want to be affordable to everyone. But just because they do so, doesn't mean all bands need to reduce their costs to an amount so small they can't afford to pay their rent. The man continued on...and really vex me. So for all of that. I don't care that I not seeing them in Trinidad. The man was so intent on saying how Flames does give back, yet someone holding a grudge over an event in Trinidad? I mean...if it was one of the promoters fine...go to a next one. Anyhow, my 2 cents. Not tryin and disrespect the band. I just was mad that people find they can bad talk a band to make them seem better.

@ BFFAN: well ask shan1...she was there at the dance they got "pelted" in 2000. i heard people threw toilet paper at them. i don't know the circumstance surrounding that whole incident...again ask shan1.

if it ain't clarence "ounku" edwards you talk too then what you posted doesn't have much credibility. and if you are so shallow enough not to want to hear them because he voiced his opinion on the business them who the hell cares if you want them in tinidad or not!!!
i bet if it was an xtatic band memeber or a sqaure 1 band member you heard made those comments you wouldn't be saying you no care if dem not in trinidad!!! : :

denyse plummer get pelt in skinner park by her own ppl but come back years later to win calypso monarch. so that sympathy eh flying by me.

IF I EVER GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO TRINIDAD FOR CARNIVAL I WOULD LIKE TO SEE DEM JAM FOR A MASS BAND ON D ROAD.

if anything i would have thought the discouragement would have wanted him to come back and conquer the area instead of having this mentality of.....o well i get pelt in tnt so i not going back, like a big baby.
i rem. in 98 rikki jai got pelt w/ toilet paper and rocks for singing chutney at soca monarch but yet again he will show his face around town not letting that stop him.
yes we all clown iwer but he too got pelt n booed in tnt n i believe up here n we didnt hear iwer say o well im not going back brooklyn or soca monarch.
the only person who i feel sorry for is denyse plummer, b/c i was there in tnt the nite of her winning and the afternoon after and her interview on the thursday after carnival in 2k1 and she had tears in her eyes, rem. the pain n days of skinner park all b/c she was white singing calypso, and she probably has gotten it the worst. she went onto talk about her determination of not giving up and finally the country seen it as her time, and finally she won, she felt like something had been accomplished. so whoever it is who is vex n upset n refuses to come tnt, so be it, b/c who vex vex, u live in the present n move on from the past. no1 eh get pelt like she n look whappen.
all 3 trini's i know of who get pelt at in their own country, so who is somebody from outside of the country not to get it?

#1..you can't say I am shallow when it comes to listening to a person's opinions because you do not know me. I thought a band survives because of it's members...everyone should be valuable to them in order to make up a successful band. If someone in another band from Trinidad said something about Flames I'm sure you'd be defending them. I am not from any island(nor are my parents). If I was close to the person and they want to state an opinion to me about someone else...fine. But as a fan of soca music as a whole...I felt it to be unprofessional to hear negativity towards other bands. Why are you getting vex I have an opinion? That is what this forum is for. It's not limited to to praising Flames all day(or any other band for that matter).

Yep that was the case, I can honestly say that was one of Burning Flames off night infact they were having extreme difficulties that year because of reasons I cannot disclose since I was asked to keep it private.
However it seems as though he has reversed the decision since onghku just told me he will be going to Trinidad this year on the 2nd of February to perform. I called him to get the facts since I don't like to speak unless its facts. He say's they have a few gigs lined up and only because Onika has been pleading so much with him why he's decided to go since he wants her to be comfortable.
Esther Dyer's decision was a mutual one between her and Flames because they both decided that the band didn't need two female Leads. He did make sure to help her get another position with another band before letting her go though.

I must say that I've been subjected to that kind of talk from Onghku quite a few times. He's pretty mean on other bands especially Antiguan and Trinidad Bands he has zero repect for them. He's blatantly told me he respects MAchel and that's it.
He hit's on the bands in Trinidad just as much as he hit's on those in his own country, I cannot say I agree with him he says he give back HHmmmmmm that's up for discussion.
He also can afford to charge peanuts for his live performances because he make over $400,000.00 from lions/Antigua Carnival annually as well as album sales no band sells as much records world wide as Flames this has ben proven.
I think what he really should be giving is to impart some of his musical knowledge to the youths in Antigua and assist other with their music so thatr when he and Flames is gone there's someone left to carry on his legacy and take his music to higher heights. He fails to assist the other artiste's in our cpountry and that I find to be a bit badminded.
His music will be loved and respected for years to come both at home and abroad

Too much people assume what really went on with Onyan and Onghku but nobody knows trust meh not even Fox whos a member of flames know they not telling anyone athing if you ask any of the two they'll just say it's personal..

for my own observation, i think the band support as a result of the matter sucks. if u have a band member from another country beggin n pleading for over three years, to come as support for her own stage in her country, and you refuse time n time again, what does that say for the band's support? if you ask me it doesn't speak good for the band.

rummy..ok you know what i admit i got carried away...i guess i am just a bit passionate when it comes to certain things!! if you read the posts i make you'll see what i mean...respect sir!!!

@shan1: oungku has been like that for a long long time..he's way to boast and over pompous!!! and it's not just wid foraign bands...he does it with the local antigua bands as well!!!

i remember on time in about 93 or so whn heart attack band from st maarten played in lions before them one time...and dem get a little hype from the crowd...when it was time for flames to start ougku cam over the PA system and start cuss heart attack band...a tlakbout how "is big band time now" and " you a little nobody band so lock off" and all kinds of direspectful shit to them...and thats just one example..i have heard him disrespect el a kru..Da bahann, pyramid and vision on various occassions...he's has a complex. he feels threatened when ever another band gets a hype over flames and the only way he can act is become emossional and say disrespectful things to other bands and artists!!! he has a tendency to be a prick at times!!!
