To me I find the pan in that sounding a bit like them Virgin Islands style ridim?

Good tune, about time Machel give us some real power.

Can we remind you that Pan is from Trinidad & Tobago and was first used in Calypso music by Roaring Lion in 1940 and then by Kitchener in 1948 who went on to pioneer the pan-kaiso.

Kalyan and Charlies Roots also routinely used the pan in their soca music between the 1970's and 1990's.

Fay-Ann Lyons has also used pan in many of her power soca tracks in a similar manner to how Machel has done in this song.

Pan and Calypso/Soca music goes hand-in-hand and this has been so since the birth of the steelband.

Btw here are credits for song:-

    Machel Montano - Beat It
    Performed by Machel Montano
Written by Jason "Shaft” Bishop, Machel Montano, Joli Rouge Sound, Alex Barnwell & Kitwana Israel
    Background vocals by Keegan Taylor
Recorded by Kitwana Israel at Monk Studio, Trinidad
Produced by Joli Rouge Sound, Alex "Kubiyashi" Barnwell and Machel Montano
Additional production by Jason "Shaft" Bishop
Pan played by Johann Chuckaree: https://www.facebook.com/Johann.M.Chuckaree
Mixed and Mastered by Keron "Scratchmaster" Hector

There u go making up arguments again. Not sure why you feel the need to remind imix where pan started an who used it when.

I simply say the pan reminds me of the VI style of ridims.

I am not trying to argue with you. Just educating anyone reading who did not already know that Machel's song's is just another one in a long established tradition in the calypso/soca music and is not copying any VI artists music or style regardless of what style of riddims the song may remind you of.

With the pump this tune is going to get from Machel Monday onwards the road march race is likely to be close now.

Also a dark-horse in the RM race this year might be "I Am Lion" by Terri Lyons especially if she manages to win the International Soca Monarch.

I think people in general want something different for road march "Full Extreme" but in reality for (people on the road) to jump the carnival route distance "Beat It" is the ultimate road/adrenaline/energy chune. Three of my sisters playing mas this year and Beat It is their song of choice, they said they need the adrenaline rush to go the distance.

The DJs will have the final say.

As I said it will be a close and exciting race especially after the pump this tune will get for the road at Machel Monday. Also don't completely count out Terri Lyons tune "I Am Lion" on the road especially if she places in the top 3 at the Soca Monarch Finals or wins the whole thing!

The Soca Monarch organisers seriously need to bring back separate Groovy and Power Soca Monarch competitions and if they need to shorten the show have both Finals on two separate nights.
