How many departed from playin 2nd fiddle to the lead artiste & became successful(at least came out w/ more than one hit)?

Shurwayne & Sean Caruth seemed to fair well with numerous tunes. I know they are still in a band, but for a while, Eddie was more of the lead.

Peter C left Atlantik(when Tony Prescott was there) & went on to do well w/ Xtatik...

But how many were able to leave and do hits solo(w/o a backing band that they belong to)?
