The Band Touch out of ST. VINCENT and the GRENADINES
Well, I got BACK MOST (lost practically all of it when I MISPLACED my IPOD several years back) of my TOUCH MUSIC, thanks to............
And I must say (like I've said before), this BAND was the most TALENTED (musically, lyrically, vocally) that I have ever heard. Lyrically, musically and VOCALLY, no BAND touches TOUCH. This band was CLEARLY ahead of its TIME. Their SOUND was UNIQUE....QUITE DISTINCT. When you hear their INNOVATIVE SOUND, U know no one else in the SOCA INDUSTRY had it. Godfrey Dublin, Ifil Shorte, and Gideon James are the BEST GROUP of VOCALISTS that I have EVER HEARD in any SOCA BAND, PERIOD. Mannnn, this GROUP has MUSIC (and I MEAN REAL and MEANINGFUL MUSIC) that can play FOREVER. Ifil SHORTE was CLEARLY one of the BETTER WRITERS, who so happens to be a TOPNOTCH VOCALIST as well, that I ever came ACROSS in the SOCA BUSINESS. Mannnn, there MUSIC is so BEAUTIFULLY RICH. NUFF RESPECT to ALL the MEMBERS of TOUCH (Bryan “Paper” Alexander, Willis Williams, Godfrey “Cherry” Ince, Godfrey “Freemus” Dublin, Lennox “Dinks” Johnson, Colin King, Maxwell “Chalis” Porter, Lance Neverson, Julius “Jules” Williams, Gideon James, Ifil Shorte and Cleve Scott), you guys have DEMONSTRATED why with it comes to INNOVATION in SOCA MUSIC and just PLAIN GOOD MUSIC, St. Vincent and the Grenadines is on TOP of the MOUNTAIN LQQKING down in the VALLEYS at the OTHERS. ![]() ![]() ![]() PS: Of course, I have to give FAFA PROPS as well, because a then very young FAFA was at the FOREFRONT of chanting on a SOCA beat on many songs by TOUCH. So RESPECT to U as well. |

We tend to talk about EXPERIMENTATION in SOCA, especially when it comes to a CERTAIN artist. Sometimes I have to LAUGH and on other OCCASIONS just SHAKE my HEAD, because it is CLEAR to me that they're NEW to this, thus barely TRUE to this.
In 1986, when these MUSICIANS who CAME together to FORM the BAND TOUCH back in 1984, one of the two TRACKS they RELEASED that year was called "CALYPSO ROCK." Of course, it did not CATCH ON, because that SOUND....that KIND of FUSION of CALYPSO/SOCA and ROCK was FOREIGN to the MUSICAL EARS of the MASSES. Listen to the ELECTRIC GUITAR solo in this SONG. Also, LISTEN to the SOUND and FEEL of this TRACK, all the way back in 1986. This kind of INNOVATION was hardly HEARD outside of VINCYLAND. And if it was HEARD, GUARANTEE U that Frankie Mac had something to do with it, in some FORM or FASHION. But this is all about TOUCH, so take in the TRACK in QUESTION. ![]() |

Yes Vincypowa...
Atleast U and I could agree on ONE thing... Touch was truly a great band... I giving them their props not only because I'm related to a couple of members... Uncle Cherry and Uncle Jimmy... But because they did their thing with a passion... I could still remember the Vincy Carnival in '90 when TOUCH mash up Kingstown... 'Twas pure pandemonium up in Vincyland... |
