Alison Article..Update
Family Coming First For Alison - Sunday 28, December-2003
by Ricky Jordan Alison Hinds won't be performing for some time, since her main priority is to have a successful pregnancy and spend as much time as possible with her first child which is due around May next year. The affable singer, who has revolutionised the concept of Caribbean female lead vocalists, said she was very family-oriented and didn't intend to be an absentee mother. "With my type of work, I can take leave longer than three months . . . it's flexible. I don't intend to be an absentee mother, there are just too many `firsts' to be missed. Me and his or her father want to spend as much time as possible bonding with the baby, and getting to know him or her. The first step, first smile, and so on, I don't want to miss them," she told the SUNDAY SUN. Hinds, who co-founded the band while fresh out of Foundation School and the Richard Stoute Teen Talent competition in 1986, said motherhood was something she has wanted for a while. "There's not a right or wrong time. I just wanted to be young enough and strong enough because, as you know, the older one gets the more difficult [childbearing] is," she said, declining to give her age and the name of the baby's father "for the time being". The English-born Hinds, who has a half-brother in England, said she was also looking forward to both families – her and her partner's – being involved in the upbringing of her child. `Last' performance Noting Friday night's 17th anniversary bash at the Boatyard, which also featured Mike Grosvenor and Peter Ram, would be her last performance for some time, she said the other members of Square One had given tremendous support and she would miss performing with them. Describing them as her "brothers" who all look out for her since she's the youngest in the band, she said they "operated like a family". She added, however, the band's schedule was often hectic and involved travelling from city to city in a matter of days, so she was taking a much-needed break. "I'll be back!," she added quickly. "I ain't gone forever," she said, noting the reaction of fans had been positive while most had been naturally curious about her temporary replacement. In fact, when one among the massive crowd of youths asked, co-lead vocalist Andy Armstrong said "it's a secret!". [like we ain t know] |

Let's hope Ms. Walters can fit Alison's shoes. I am really going to miss her in Trinidad. She always lights up the stage.
