Patrons at the semi final round of the Chutney Soca Monarch at the Rienzi Complex, Couva on Friday night partied the night away as they listened to 42 artistes competing for a place in the finals scheduled for January 26 at the Skinner Park, San Fernando.

The 17 finalists competing at Skinner Park for the finals are:
    • Saleem “Stinky” Beharry
    • Omadath Maharaj
    • Adesh Samaroo
    • Drupatee Ramgoonai
    • Sally Sagram
    • Hemlatha Dindial
    • Veekash Sahadeo
    • Michelle X
    • Kenneth Supersad
    • Prophet Benjamin
    • Rikki Jai
    • Anil Bheem
    • Raymond Ramnarine
    • Hunter & Junjeezy
    • Roger Hinds (Guyana Chutney Soca Monarch)
    • KI Persad-defending champion

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Don't know why Ravi B who probably has the biggest international chutney soca tune for 2013 with "Prescription" is not in the final.

Did he not enter his song in Chutney Soca Monarch and is instead concentrating more on the mainstream Groovy Soca Monarch competition?

Keen contest in Chutney Soca Monarch final | The Trinidad Guardian Newspaper

Keen contest in Chutney Soca Monarch final
    Drupatie heads female challenge

    Published: Monday, January 21, 2013

Four women are in line to score an upset over their male counterparts in this year’s 2013 Lotto Plus Chutney Soca Monarch final. The field of 17 finalist features Drupatie Ramgoonai, Sally Sagram, Michelle Xavier and Hemlata Dindial. Xavier told the T&T Guardian that she is excited about making her debut in the final on Saturday at Skinner Park in San Fernando.

Performing Indian Man, Xavier said she plans on making chutney music a frequent offering on the musical platter she dishes out annually. Simone Ragoonanan, manager and publicist for 55-year-old Drupatee Ramgoonai, said his client is very confident that her song of choice Indian Gyal would take her to the top spot.

Drupatee has been in the music business for the past 35 years. She shot to fame with the 1988 song Mr Bissessar. Also entering the competition after a lull of more than a decade is Raymond Ramnarine who topped the semifinal rounds at the Rienzi Complex, Couva, on Friday with I Ent Marriding.

Ramnarine, 38, said the song tells the tale of a marriage gone sour. He said he last entered the competition when he was around 16 and was spurred to enter by thousands of fans who sent him messages through the social networking site Facebook asking him to take part. Anil Bheem and Adesh Samaroo are glad that the finals are headed back to the South. Bheem, however, said he preferred the finals to be judged by a panel rather than the current method using text messages to cast votes.

This, he said, reduced the competition to a popularity contest. Samaroo said he is giving it his best shot with 21, a song about people escaping the chains of bondage, physical and otherwise to party. Samraj Jaimungal, alias Rikki Jai, who has won the crown seven times said he plans on taking it for the eighth time with Ent Yuh Know. Jai said he, too, was happy that the finals had returned home to the southland and was looking forward to coming up against the “big guns” in the art form.

Comedian and radio broadcaster Kenneth Supersad is making his ninth trip to the finals. Supersad said his offering Bad Talking Women puts a spin on the wave of songs that promote “singleness” and bachelorhood. He said the offering is humorous and is sure to get a lot of votes.

Devon Samuel, also called Prophet Benjamin, of Point Fortin, said he was well-received with an outpouring of love from the fans at the semifinals when he sang No Lokani. Benjamin, who is making his first trip to the final, said the song was written in conjunction with Pearl Massey.

    Finalists
The following performers are bidding for the $1 million winner’s prize:

Saleem “Stinky” Beharry "Park Up Meh Car"
    Omadath Maharaj "Bacchanal"

    Hunter & Junjeezy "De Doggie"
Roger Hinds—(Guyana Chutney Soca Monarch) "Chutney For My Larki "

No it isn't! Are you watching the show live?
It's on now and I am enjoying it.

Here is the link: LiveStream | CNC3

Unlike the Soca Monarch, singers are singing properly rather than singing over recorded vocals.
The stage productions are also first class and the musicians are great!!

The show is good and in fact watching it makes me feel quite proud to be a Trini.

Raymond Ramnarine aka Mr Raymond is the new 2013 Chutney Soca Monarch.

He sang "I Ain't Marridin No More" and beat Rikki Jai into 2nd place!

Raymond Ramnarine ft. Mr.Vegas - I Ain't Marridin No More (Remix)

I think the Defending Champion KI placed 3rd or 4th.

The competition was decided entirely by text voting so to those who complaining about the high percentage of points (35%) that is decided by text voting in Soca Monarch, how about this perspective, it is 100% text voting in Chutney Soca Monarch.

Raymond Ramnarine makes top notch music with a top notch band in Dil e Nadan. Congrats to him.

This band started out as an indian band playing indian music...i remember them from years ago.....these days they put on a calypso/soca concert to rival a lot of mainstream soca bands out there. I was impressed the last time i saw them.

This is how the 2013 Chutney Soca Monarch results were announced last night:

    10) 20.8 Points - Saleem "Stinky" Beharry
    09) 21.2 Points - (TIE) Omadath Maraj AND Sally Sagram
    08) 22.2 Points - Prophet Benjamin
    07) 22.5 Points - (TIE) Hunter AND Rick Ramoutar
    06) 22.9 Points - Anil Bheem
    05) 23.9 Points - Drupatee
    04) 25.5 Points - Kenneth Supersad
    03) 33.7 Points - KI
    02) 42.6 Points - Rikki Jai
    01) 43.7 Points - Raymond Ramnarine

CHUTNEY SOCA MONARCH 2013 : CONGRATS TO RAYMOND RAMNARINE!

Also note that the Chutney Soca Monarch competition was decided entirely by text voting.
So to those who are complaining about the high percentage of points (35%) that is decided by text voting in the Soca Monarch competition, how about this perspective, it is 100% text voting in Chutney Soca Monarch.

And btw the final guest artist on the show was Ravi B who did not enter the competition this year but based upon the crowd response he got for his "Prescription" hit song, he would have stood a good chance of winning the title this year if he had entered.
