Okay I'm a bit bored here so I remote connected into my desktop to post these pictures
I am going to post two pictures if you dont mind so you can see what I was trying to achieve. I like food photos that look like dark moody paintings, so the first one that is what I was trying to do with the lighting by my front door on the floor

I couldnt get what I was trying to do in my mind's eye so I brighten up the picture a bit.

I will have to post my manual setting when I get home since I dont have my camera with me now to record what they were.

This exercise taught me I really need a tripod. My hand shaked a couple of times and I cut off the bottom of the photos:

1st one trying to look like a painting:

Again, playing off the texture of the pear and the used cookie sheet colouring but I couldnt get the shallow depth of field I truly wanted.

2nd one with a faster shutter speed:

Please feel free to post as many as you like. The only reason I said one is because one photo a week wouldn't be too much pressure. But by all means I encourage everyone to post as many photos as they like.

I prefer the first photo, it looks like an oil paiting.

In this shot, the overexposure doesn't work. It takes away from the natural feel of the fruit, makes it looks plastic.

    Lightbulb

    FYI....

When discussing photos, let's try and use the proper terminology (exposure, aperture, shutter speed, etc....). This I believe will help with our understanding of functions/techniques (old and new).

My girlfriend said the same thing as well when I sent it to her. (she is a photographer too). She liked the composition but the lighting was a bit off for her.

I used a diffuser against the screen door, so that with the change in shutter speed cast the light "flatter".

ETA: I think I was too close to the subject as well. I need to come back and then zoom and hopefully gain more dimension...unno agree?

It's great to have feedback so you know what to look for and change the next time you attempt something.

Those who posted their pictures... It's nice to study what others do to learn since I am pretty new to this.
