Yes, i am a little slow, I know what it state, that is why i put it up, all i am trying to point out is that it is not the same ppl in Broward that is putting on the Carnival . clearly : From their web site : BROWARD CARNIVAL INC. “Uniting People Through Culture”. Broward County, Florida The Directors of Broward Carnival Inc. [BCI] have decided that in keeping with our motto “Uniting People Through Culture”, it is in the best interest of the entire Caribbean Community, not to host Broward Carnival 2005. "Look for Broward Carnival 2006 we are looking forward to working with all of you again. Please be advised that BCI is not affiliated with any groups hosting carnival for 2005. The following names are the only persons who can speak on behalf of Broward Carnival Inc. [BCI]." Well, clue me in, my take on this is that in 2006, we are looking at 3 carnivals. "miami Carnival"
THE NAME "MIAMI CARNIVAL" EMPHESIS ON THE NAME "MIAMI"
MIAMI WAS THE ORIGINAL, STILL IS THE BIGGEST AND BEST OUT THERE AND THE ONLY REASON BROWARD EVEN GOT A CHANCE TO START THEIR CARNIVAL IS BECAUSE THEY WERE PART OF THE "MIAMI" CARNIVAL. I FIND THIS BREAKAWAY AND CAUSE CONFUSION TING JUST BRINGS A DAMPER ON CARNIVAL. MOST OUT OF TOWNERS STAY IN MIAMI AND EVEN PEOPLE LIVING IN BROWARD GO TO MIAMI, I JUST FIND IT SAD THAT WEST INDIANS CAN'T JUST STICK TOGETHER AND KEEP IT ONE GREAT CARNIVAL. I MEAN IT IS THE ONE THING THAT BRINGS US ALL TOGETHER. POLITICS "THE DESTROYER" . |

dat is one thing about the BCI statement that puzzle me, if you going to say that in order to carry out your mission of unity you cancelling this year, but having carnival next year I feel you contradicting yourself...real unity would be to join back with MCI and call it a day

Well, you got that right, Miami was the first and it is all about politics, but i tell you what, the folks for Miami Carnival is just as bad, for the last five years I been down to Miami, they have you running all over the damn state also,...I mean, where is the voting W.I. community in Miami ? They can't go to these local politicians and say, hey, we bring in x amount of funds into Miami, we would like for you to push our agenda through, that is a permanent spot( place ) if not we will find a candidate in your area to run against you that will push our agenda, etc. Last edited by socapineman; 09-23-2005 at 07:57 PM.. |

I do agree
I agree with you on the voting situation, I think that there should be some kind of way that the West Indian Community or it's representatives should have a say in where the Miami Carnival is actually held. But beleive me, MCI has tried to keep it at one location, but again, politics. When they had it at the Hialeah Race Track, which I've heard was one of the best venues, the residents around the Track complained. Same as with Opa Locka - I mean, these politicians want the money, but they rather get votes from the Community it's as simple as that. Homestead was a little far, but when it came to Carnival Route, it was great, but there was an issue with the Police Force there. I think they became overwhelmed, they didn't expect the number of people and of course that became an issue. So now Carnival is Downtown, and hopefully the politicians will go by how this helps their city Financially. |

Homestead...LOL, that was a bad dream, I was saying , what we are about to drive into the Atlantic ocean or what, that to me was a a poor choice, way too too far. Listen, the Black folks in America have to get their shit together, it can't be a fete after fete without no political pull from site to site. We have to pool our funds together and build something, you try to talk to some of these folks about the business side of carnival and all you get is leave me alone, I on vbacation, just want to enjoy myself, Miami will carry on , etc...a bunch of real jokers. Again, part of the problem is that these organizations are running these functions like a fete and not a business, so no one will ever take us serious. |
