Arrow Mas Individuals

How do u become one?

Do u approach the band? They approach you? Do you pay for construction etc (i.e in charge of gettin it created) or does the band do that? If they ask you is it free?

I'm just curious....

My aunt played individual for quite a few years. I am not sure how she approached them initially because she started playing before I had much interest in 'big people' mas but I do know that she had to pay some of her money upfront.

One year I remember her paying about $5000 TT before she even left Trinidad after carnival that year for her costume for the next year. I think that year her entire costume cost about 30,000TT. She also bought some of the feathers and stuff for her costume herself and had them shipped to Trinidad.

I don't think that it could ever be free but most likely if the band pays for the costume there may be some arrangement for them to get all or some of any prize money won. Not to sure how it works these days because she stopped playing about 4-5years ago.
