Digicel for Carnival 2k7

After reading de post regarding the possible contents of Tribes goodie bag, it reminded me, that I should give you guys a heads up as prepartion for de carnival season.....

Unless Digicel have reviewed their current policy since I was last their (July/Aug), Unless you are a Trinidad citizen you cannot buy a digicel phone, you can of course get some else who has local ID to get it for you!!!!!

Personally myself I never heard of such chupidness as you can buy them in Stlucia, Grenada, Barbados, St Vincent, as a visitor, so why not Trinidad???

If BMobile can surely digicel can too!!!

I ran into that problem in St. Kitts this year...they would not sell me a new sim card for my Jamaican Digicel phone and they would not sell me a new Digicel phone unless I had a St. Kitts passport or National ID card. They said it was for security reasons. So, I got a St. Kitts friend to buy one for me.

In Grenada this year, they sold me a new sim card for my phone but it was a special card just for tourists...I think the rate to call the states was much higher then the locals pay, but Im not positive on that. I never really checked because I didnt call home that much and it wasnt and issue for me.

I think the hotels and local phone companies dont want tourists to be buying these phones and calling back to home with the cheap rates that are set for the locals and their income..thats my guess.

BTW, after having a cell phone for my last several carnivals, I cannot imagine being without one now. It has made things so much easier.
E.g., in Grenada this year, my taxi driver didnt show for my ride to the airport at 4am and since I had a cell phone I managed to get another ride after several calls...without that cell phone i would have missed my flight and been out several hundred dollars, no question about it.
