Sunday, February 6th 2005

The Public Health Department of the Port of Spain City Corporation has clamped down on the use of truck-borne toilet facilities in the Queen's Park Savannah.

The mobile toilets are a feature of some mas bands.

A TV6 report last night said the National Carnival Commission has indicated that County Medical Officer of Health Dr Daniel Chang has warned that there is a health risk having mobile toilets along the Savannah route, where there is widespread food preparation. Violation of the rule will constitute an offence under the public health ordinance.

The report said that the NCC has told bandleaders that vehicles with toilets must leave their bands prior to entering the Savannah and rejoin them at the exit point.

The NCC added that there would be 250 portable toilets along the parade route, well away from food preparation and handling areas.
