Ban on soca, lewd and gun songs
The Broadcasting Commission has turned a critical eye on soca and other genre of music and has issued a ban on transmission of lewd, sexual content.
The Commission again flexed its muscles today issuing directives under Regulation 31 of the Television and Sound Broadcasting regulations.
This comes just weeks after its ban on so called "Daggering" song caused public uproar:
On Friday, the Commission said the broadcast of any soca music content that displays, simulates or instructs about sexual activities or positions is prohibited.
Gun lyrics have also been targeted, with the Commission putting a stop to transmission of lyrics glorifying gun use, killing and other acts of violence.
The latest ban also covers any live or recorded content which shows children participating in activities that simulate sexual activities or positions.
This includes street parades, stage shows or dances.
The latest directive comes when plans are in high gear for the annual carnival celebrations with its popular street dances and nightly soca shows.
The Commission's ban on the broadcast of gun lyrics applies to live events, recordings or music videos that promote the use of the gun, and violent acts such murder, rape, mob violence and arson.
Programme managers and station owners or operators have been advised to take immediate steps to prevent the transmission of any material which falls under its latest directives.
Content which falls into the category of edited musical content which require the using of techniques of ‘‘bleeping'' to make it fit for airplay, is also banned.
Soca get fuk!!!! This is what happen when all your lyrics promote sex.
