They were products of their times. They did make many claims that were Afrocentric, but contrary to modern Afrocentrics, they were challenging the blunt Eurocentrism at the time, when peer review that challenged it was next to nil. And they helped empower African movements. With time with new science we have to separate the facts from the fancy in their claims though.
